Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is an upcoming open world and role-playing video game developed and published by CD Projekt, releasing for Microsoft WindowsPlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Adapted from the 1988 tabletop game Cyberpunk 2020, it is set fifty-seven years later in dystopian Night City, California, an open world with six distinct regions. In a first-person perspective, players assume the role of the customisable mercenary V, who can reach prominence in three character classes by applying experience points to stat upgrades. V has an arsenal of ranged weapons and options for melee combat.

Cyberpunk 2077 is the next big game from the developer of The Witcher 3, and we've seen just enough of it to be totally transfixed while also wanting way more. Fortunately, we won't have to wait much longer. It's definitely going to be an E3 2019 game, and we may even finally get a Cyberpunk 2077 release date during all the hubbub. I wouldn't bet on it - CDPR is notorious for sticking to a "when it's done" philosophy for announcements - but it is a possibility. Hopefully the studio will at least have another hefty chunk of Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay

Cyberpunk 2077 game is first-person and very slick

If you were expecting a sci-fi flavored version of The Witcher, you may be reeling right now. But don't worry: in this case, change is a very good thing. Cyberpunk 2077 uses a first-person perspective to put players firmly in the boots of a low-level gun-for-hire on the futuristic streets of Night City, and it also works well with the game's penchant for fast-paced gunplay. That said, 2077 is far from a straight first-person shooter: dialogue bleeds seamlessly into exploration, hacking and engineering skills can get you all kinds of places you're not supposed to be, and there are even a bunch of non-lethal (or just non-gun) options for fighting. Plus, there is still a bit of third-person during scripted cut scenes and driving around the city. Keep in mind that everything we've seen so far is subject to change, but it's all very promising.

Cyberpunk 2077 character creation

During the demo we got a quick peak of the character creation screen, which starts with choosing your sex (Male or Female). From there, you can customize hair, tattoos, and clothing. It doesn't look like you can change your character's bone structure, though no deep menu of facial feature sliders here.

You can also change your stats. There are basics like Strength and Intelligence, but also a 'Cool' stat that perhaps maps to charisma or one's ability to handle stress. The full list from what we saw in the demo: Strength, Constitution, Intelligence, Reflexes, Tech, Cool. Notably, there are some important stats from the tabletop Cyberpunk not represented here, like Empathy. More on why that's significant below.

Cyberpunk 2077's release date

So CD Projekt has established that the Cyberpunk 2077 release on 18 November 2020 at the latest. That's the official word, but we did some math of our own to establish when it could arrive. Long story short, based on what we know about the development of The Witcher 3 (CD Projekt Red's last game, another huge open-world RPG)
